A: No; Sec. 16-3 of the code of Ordinances state that no person other than the police Chief, police officers or other officer in the discharge of official duty discharge any projectile weapon, including, but not limited to: any bow, crossbow, pellet gun, slingshot, or other weapon that is not a firearm which is capable of expelling a projectile that could inflict serious physical injury or death by striking or piercing a person within the City.

Q: Can I park a commercial Vehicle on the street?
A: No – Section 17-317 no person shall park a commercial vehicle, except for emergency purposes: a) on any street, in any district zoned for residential use between the hours of 8 pm and 6 am on any day. b) On any vacant or unimproved lot anywhere in the city and c) with a GVW or licenses weight exceeding 18,000 Lbs. In any district in the city zone for residential use between the hours of 8 pm and 6 am on any day unless said vehicle is parked in a fully enclosed structure.

Q: What do I do if I think something suspicious is occurring?
A: Call us immediately at 849-4400. If you believe it is an emergency situation call 911. Do not wait until the next day or the morning. Our officers are constantly patrolling the city; they could be one block from your house at the time of the incident. If you don't call we can't help. No concern is too small to check out.

Q: What is the "noise" law in Sunset Hills?
A: Sunset Hills has several ordiances regarding noise complaints. Call the police for complaints about loud parties, stereos, or barking dogs. In most of these cases it will be necessary for a complainant (not the police) to be willing to sign a summons in order to charge a person with this violation. Noise caused by construction work, heavy equipment and blasting is restricted to 7:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday and 8:00 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday. Trash pick-up noise is restricted in the residential areas to 7:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Saturday. These last two type of complaints do not need a complainant's signature.

A: For children under the age of 17 the curfew is: Sunday through Thursday 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday 12 midnight

Q: When I call 911, how does the police department know where I am?
A: All telephone numbers have been routed into the 911 system to connect to the police agency responsible for that location. Sunset Hills dispatchers answer all calls made in Sunset Hills to 911. The 911 system automatically displays the telephone number and address to the dispatcher of any incoming 911 call. The dispatcher will then obtain the nature of the emergency, verify the address and send the appropriate units. All 911 calls that originate from a cellular telephone will connect you directly to the St. Louis County Police Department. If your are calling from a cellular phone you will need to advise the dispatcher the exact location of the emergency so they can connect you to the proper agency. Please remember, 911 is a powerful tool that has saved many lives, but it should be used in emergencies only.

Q: Will the police watch my house while I am on vacation?
A: Yes. Prior to leaving on vacation, notify us by calling 849-7867 (suns) and answering a few questions. That information will be given to the patrol officers. Your home will be checked daily. Upon your return, please call and advise us so that we may cancel the daily check.

Q: How do I get a copy of a police report?
A: Copies of police reports may be obtained by contacting the records clerk at the police department from 8a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Portions of some reports may not be available for public release, please contact the records clerk at 314-849-4400 if you have any questions.
