The Parks and Recreation Board report and advise to the Board of Alderman on all items concerning the Parks Department. This can include matters like the acquisition, development, maintenance and operation of parks and recreation areas.
This commission is appointed by the Mayor with approval of the Board of Aldermen. All members serve three year terms or until a successor is appointed and qualified. Two members from each ward and one member “at large”. No more than three members may be elected City officials. The Parks Director is an ex-officio, non voting member and shall attend commission meetings. The Mayor appoints the chairman with the approval of the Board of Aldermen and shall serve for a one year term. Vacancies are filled for the unexpired term only. No limits on the number of successive terms a member can serve. Must attend at least 7 meetings per calendar year.
