The City of Sunset Hills will be performing a repair of pavement at the intersection of Old Gravois & Kennerly. The project will include a mill of 2" of asphalt and the replacement of same with an asphalt product called "Superpave." This material is perfect for heavy wheel wheel loads and especially braking actions that tend to distort the pavement surface. After placement the affected street markings will be re-established.
During the course of this work, no street closures are anticipated, but there will be lane closures with flagmen in the area. It will be the contractor's responsibility to coordinate access to the commuters during the construction process too. The City thanks the traveling public in advance for their consideration and patience during this work.
While the city normally performs patching with asphalt repair projects, it is not anticipated to take place on this job. Access in these areas would be tight during the asphalt repair portion of the project. Please observe all warning signs, barricades and flagmen working in this area. Sections of the roadway will be restricted during most of the work.
Patching with structural grade asphalt.
In this case, there will be no patching anticipated. The profile grind takes place before the simple replacement of the Superpave material. Commuters in the area are advised to be aware of the construction activity.
Paving of the surface course of asphalt. The asphalt is a finer grade than the structural grade asphalt used in patching.
Once the project is completed, city crews will be responsible to back fill any areas behind the curb and re-establishing the vegetation. None of this activity is anticipated for this project as there will be no addition of curbs or change in grade of the new pavement.
If you have any questions concerning the project, please do not hesitate to contact the Public Works Department at 314-849-3400 or you can email Street Superintendent, Jerry Eime. Check back to this web page regularly for updates and thank you for your patience while undergoing this work.
