Wellness Week March 25th-31st

A whole week dedicated to getting to be a happier and healthier you! Speakers, demonstrations, free classes and interactive sessions all week! All events are FREE and held at Sunset Hills Community Center, 3915 S. Lindbergh Blvd, except for our Wellness Week 5k which will be $10 and held at Minnie Ha Ha Park. See below for more details. Miracle Ear Hearing Screenings

Super Smoothies 
Monday, March 25th, 11:30am, Meeting Room B
Speaker: Teresa Johnson, CPT, HKC, PN1- Sunset Hills Community Center

Do you struggle to incorporate enough fruits and vegetables in your diet? Learn how to create delicious raw juice and smoothies. Included in the session will be how to develop flavor combinations, improve texture and add additional nutrients. Session will include some standing to watch demonstrations.

Introduction to Running- Drills, Warm Ups, and Cool Downs 
Monday, March 25th, 6pm, Gym
Speaker: Richard Adams, RRCA Certified Coach- MSE Racing
 
This interactive session will be led by certified running coach Richard Adams and will include techniques for warm up, cool down, and drills to help you improve your technique and speed. Participants should wear running shoes and clothes and expect to be moving most of the session.

An Introduction to Acupuncture
Tuesday, March 26th, 11:30am, Meeting Room A
Speaker: Dr. Amanda Lovekamp, DC, MS, MTAA- Sunset Hills Chiropractic 
Although acupuncture has been used for thousands of years, its effects are not always well-known by the general public. Dr. Amanda Lovekamp, a Chiropractic Physician at Sunset Hills Family Chiropractic that practices both chiropractic and acupuncture, will give a brief informational regarding how acupuncture works and discuss common conditions in which acupuncture treatment has been shown effective.

Meditation Seminar 
Tuesday, March 26th, 6pm, Meeting Room A
Speaker: Artemisa Heizer- Sunset Hills Community Center 
Experience guided meditation to learn how to settle yourself and quiet your mind from a fast paced world. Many studies have concluded simple mindfulness, meditation, and exercise techniques are effective systems for warding off the negative impact of everyday stress.

AAA Membership Drive 
Wednesday, March 27th, 10:30am-12:30pm, Community Center Lobby
AAA Group Membership will offer special pricing to members and staff at Sunset Hills Community Center for new AAA Memberships. There are three levels of membership available with the Classic membership offered to new members for only $44.00 with a second member free of charge. Special pricing for Plus and Premier levels as well. 

The Bond of Mind & Body

Speaker: Tom Duff, MSW, LCSW- Executive Director of Saint Louis Counseling
So often we try to make improvements within ourselves, but we do not always take a holistic approach. When trying to improve our body through physical fitness we do not always explore within our mind all that is necessary to lose those 15 lbs. At the same time exploring our own selves cognitively allows us better to “Know Thyself” which can lead to improving all realms of our life. This seminar will discuss the importance of well-being by exploring the whole person and the connections between the mind and body that will allow us to successfully meet our life goals.

What’s for Dinner?

Speakers:Teresa Johnson- Sunset Hills Community Center
A discussion of how to build a well-balanced daily diet with tips and tricks to make the process of meal planning easier. Participants will receive time saving tips, recipes, and be shown some basic food prep techniques. Session will involve standing and moving around the room.

Tower to Table Workshop 
Thursday, March 28th, 11:30am, Meeting Room A
Speakers: Julie Gau And Kate Palermo- Juice Plus and Tower Garden by Juice Plus 
Come learn about vertical hydroponic gardening and how you can grow your own food without dirt, weeds, or chemicals. “Taste the Difference” as you compare store bought greens to fresh Tower Garden greens. Group Fitness Healthy Happy Hour 
Friday, March 29th, 5:30pm, Large Meeting Room
Join your fellow Group Fitness attendees for a fun happy hour! Bring a drink and a snack to share as you socialize. Event will also feature facial samples from Sommer Schaefer of Rodan and Fields.

How to Achieve Balance
Saturday, March 30th, 11am, Meeting Room A
Speaker: Christy Schaefer- Sunset Hills Community Center 
Discussion of ways to put balance into your life. This session will focus on finding balance with food, workouts, social calendar, and family. Christy will go over strategies and suggestions that will help your life feel more relaxed and enjoyable in all areas of your life.

Wellness Week 5k Fun Run/Walk 
Sunday March 31st, 8am, Minnie Ha Ha Park 
Our Wellness Week concludes with a Fun Run/Walk in the gorgeous Minnie Ha Ha Park! Cost is $10 and the first 150 registrants will receive a canvas Wellness Week bag. Click here to register online. Please note this is an untimed, fun run.
